Idea of interior

About the interior, I get some idea from the interior of Danish Jewish Museum. I quiet like its walls and the use of lighting. And I like the use of natural daylight in Berlin Jewish Museum and Church of Light. So I decided to combine those features in my design.

Secondary module

According to their function, different types of primary module constitute the secondary module. And the 'nest' building is formed by different secondary modules.

Primary module

My concept is 'module within module'. The primary modules have ten different types. The size of them is the same. Length: 6.3m, Width: 2.4m, Height: 3.3m. Each module will fit in the container truck, easy for transportation.

Floor Plans

In the draft of floor plans, I designed four levels. The ground floor has offices, storage, reception, and toilets. The main display areas are located in the first floor and second floor. There are display areas, cafe, and souvenir shop in the top floor.

I try to design a flexible and spatial history museum, including display areas, reception, souvenir shop, toilets, offices and storage.

Module Design Concept

Designing a flexible and spatial building, including display area, reception, souvenir shop, toilets, offices, storage. Different forms and colours represent different areas and function.

Design concept

My design concept is developed from my folie design idea of a bird nest, the idea of having 360-degree views of the outside environment. And I also will pay attentation on the inside views. I have further develop into a history museum, which will show the history and development of Brisbane, Story Bridge, and so on. Those modules build up a 'nest' building, which means to remind us of the past when we were young. As we know, nest is the place where birds lay their eggs and hatch their young, representing the beginning, memories, grouth, history. The 'nest' structure also can represent the diversity development of Brisbane.

Mitchell Joachim: Don't build your home, grow it!

In Regards to the houses made of tree's; these are an amazing idea, but how can we keep it dry and shade. I like the idea but currently it doesn't seem to be much more. And I hope we can achieve that idea in the future through our efforts.

Modular architecture

Modular architecture refers to the design of any system composed of separate components that can be connected together. The beauty of modular architecture is that you can replace or add any one component without affecting the rest of the system. Here are some examples of modular architecture.

Folie Design

After Visiting the Howard Smith Wharves, the site has the following features.

- Riverside are with low topography

- Unerneath the Story Bridge

- Cliff facing to the Brisbane River

- Cliff is coverd by vegetation

- Darkness under the bridge

- Not too noisy

The Howard Smith Wharves has a great geographical advantage. It has great views of Bribane river and city from the cliff. So I want to seize this feature for my folie design. As I know, some birds nest on the cliff, so I think the folie can be designed as a bird's nest for rest and enjoy those nice views.

Walkshop

In week two, we navigate Brisbane starting from our uni and completing the journey at the Howard Smith Wharves. We were walking through George street and survey the scenery along the way. And then we turned to the Ann street and had a break in front of the City Hall. We took the bus to the Chinatown. We walked through the Chinatown and finally we arrived at Howard Smith Wharves. Here are some sketches and photos from the walkshop.
